Welcome
to Cohasset Pediatrics.
We are currently accepting new patients including newborns, newborns
and their siblings, and transfers of children from families new to
the area. Our office hours and phone numbers, and directions to the
office are available if you click on the appropriate links or visit
us via the Healthcare South home page.
Getting started
When you visit the office for first time, you will be asked to complete
a patient registration form. You
can print a copy of this form and complete it before coming in if
that is more convenient for you.
You will also be asked to complete a new registration form if the
information on it changes substantially, i.e., change in name, address,
or insurance information.
We bill many insurance companies directly. To assist us in accurate
billing, you will be asked to present your insurance card at each visit.
If you have a copayment for office visits, please plan to pay at the
time of your visit. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards.
If your insurance company requires you to designate a primary care
physician, please be sure to contact them with the appropriate information
at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. You also need to contact
your insurance company to enroll your newborn after the birth.
We accept Blue Cross, Tufts, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Aetna, Cigna,
Fallon, HealthCare Value Management, and others. If you have an insurance
question, please ask. If you have a billing question, please call the
central Healthcare South office in Pembroke at 1-800-388-5838.

Well child visits
We like to see each newborn between 10 and 14 days of age. This visit
is usually scheduled with your primary care physician. During the
visit, we will review birth history, feeding and sleeping behaviors,
and your questions in addition to assessing your newborn's weight
and health.
Routine well child visits are scheduled to assess your child's growth
and development and administer immunizations that help prevent disease.
These will be at ages 4 to 6 weeks, two months, four months, six months,
nine months, 12 months, 15 months, and 18 months, and then annually
starting at age 2. We generally follow patients until they become young
adults.
At each well visit your child's growth and development will be assessed.
We will discuss feeding, elimination, sleeping, and behavioral issues
and provide anticipatory guidance including safety and healthy lifestyle
information. Time will be provided for you to ask questions and many
people bring a written list of questions to appointments.
As children mature and develop a need for privacy, the physical examination
and discussion with the child is conducted separately from the consultation
with the accompanying parent. This occurs at different ages for different
children.
Well child visits can be scheduled by calling the office during regular
phone hours (8:30 AM -- 1 PM and 2 PM -- 5 PM). We generally schedule
these up to three months in advance.
Sick child visits
Generally we schedule sick visits for the same day you call. These
visits may be for acute illness, injury, rechecks, or to evaluate
ongoing problems.
Secretaries in the office start answering the phone at 8:30 AM and
can book sick visit appointments.
Phone calls
On days the office is open, the phone lines are answered in the office
from 8:30 AM to 1 PM and from 2 PM to 5 PM. The answering service
will answer the phone at other times.
You can call to schedule well child visits or sick visits, ask questions,
leave referral information, or speak to a nurse.
The nurses in the office can answer a lot of questions over the phone.
They can help you decide if your child needs to be seen or help you
handle the problem at home.
After hours
After 5 PM the answering service will refer you to the on-call physician.
The physicians at Cohasset Pediatrics are in a call group with the
physicians at Scituate Pediatrics and with Dr.
Jolles and Dr. Johnston who have an office
on Route 53 in Hanover.
After hours, the on-call physician is available by phone and may have
office hours. It is our policy to return after hours phone calls within
one hour. If the call is emergent please let the answering service
know and the on-call physician will call you back as soon as possible,
often within 10 minutes. If you do not receive a return call as expected,
please call the answering service again -- they may have taken your
phone number down incorrectly or the message may not have been transmitted
properly. We do want to be able to reach you.
Later at night, phone calls are returned by Night Nurse. Night Nurse
is a professionally staffed phone triage service that answers phone
calls for pediatricians in eastern Massachusetts. The staff at Night
Nurse can help you with urgent problems. They can arrange for your
child to be seen in the emergency room if necessary. They can also
consult with the on-call physician if necessary.
Weekend and Holiday visits
On weekend and holiday days the on-call physician sees patients in
his or her own office on an urgent care basis. Depending on how many
people need to be seen, the office may be open for only a few hours
or for a full day. If you know your child needs to be seen, we suggest
you call early in the day to schedule an appointment. Later in the
day the on-call physician will be taking phone calls. If your child
needs to be seen, the on-call physician may refer you to the emergency
room.
Referrals
For assistance in deciding with your child needs to see a specialist
or for specific advice as to which specialist to see, discuss the
problem with your physician. Once the physician has recommended your
child see a specialist, call the specialist and make an appointment.
To have an insurance referral processed, call the office and leave
the message containing your child's name, the name of the specialist,
the appointment date and time, the name of your insurance carrier,
and your name and phone number in case we need to reach you in regards
to the referral.
It is best if you call us as soon as you make your specialty appointment.
Generally we need at least one week to process a referral. Requests
made less than one week prior to an appointment may not be able to
be processed. Referral requests received after the appointment has
occurred are generally not able to be processed.
Your insurance plan may have restrictions in regards to referrals.
We can assist you in finding appropriate care. Please call if you have
questions.
